Mission Statement
To celebrate the domestic art of washing, in particular ‘hanging it out’, by creating a catalogue of images of washing in different settings which can be exhibited to the wider public.
To champion ‘letting it all hang out’ with the time honoured use of the washing line, as opposed to the energy guzzling tumble dryer.
This is a light-hearted cultural study, providing an opportunity to display and compare the daily work of washer folk everywhere. This colourful necessary task of daily life unifies gender, culture and generations.
Our aims.
To collect images from everyone and anyone to be exhibited both on line and elsewhere
To collate stories, anecdotes and tips on hanging out your washing
What can you do?
Show pride in your hard work and the hard work of others. Photograph your washing line!
Hunt out washing, go and seek it with your camera and share the fruits of your endeavours. Enjoy and have fun, become a washing line sleuth. Email us your images to washingline@ymail.com, so that we can display them, celebrate them and chat about them. Please let us know the location and date of each image if possible, (you can remain anonymous if you wish). Please only send us photos you have permission to use, not ones you find on Google images etc.
Comment, chat, share advice and offer tips.
Share the link with others who may want to join the fun and would like to be part of the washing line collective.
